Community and camaraderie were celebrated earlier this year as the three Yishunite of the Year 2025 finalists were recognised for their meaningful contributions. The annual Yishunite of the Year award acknowledges residents who have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact on the community. These everyday heroes are nominated by their friends and neighbours, with the winner determined through voting via Facebook.
Nee Soon East MP Mr Jackson Lam presented awards to the three finalists, with Mr Francis Teo taking home the top honour. Francis is one of the key individuals behind the Nee Soon East Community Farm. Known for his hands-on leadership and generous spirit, he has been instrumental in coordinating farming activities, guiding fellow volunteers, and ensuring that harvested produce is shared with the wider community.
Yishunite of the Year Francis invited more residents to be a part of the community farm. “Our farm is just near Blk 320 Yishun Central,” he added. “Even if you do not have green fingers, do not worry. We will teach you skills that you can also bring back home. If you are interested, see you at the farm!”
First runner-up Mdm Siti Rodziah was recognized for her tireless volunteer work and strong involvement in neighbourhood events and initiatives. Her consistent presence and willingness to help have strengthened bonds among residents and kept community activities vibrant and inclusive.
The second runner-up award was presented to Ms Cassandra Ruth, who has dedicated more than 32 years to teaching phonics, speech reading, and English enrichment programmes in Resident Committees across Yishun and nearby neighbourhoods. Her long-standing commitment has touched generations of students and families, earning her deep respect and appreciation within the community.
